OPC – an interesting ingredient in red wine extract
Red wine contains a remarkable proportion of OPC (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins). For the grapes whose extract we use for Vino Vida, we pay attention to a particularly high OPC content. Another phytochemical in red wine is resveratrol.
In 1979 the French paradox was first described in the scientific journal The Lancet. This is the observation that French people on average have better blood vessel health, although they eat greasier, smoke more and do less exercise. A possible explanation could be the higher red wine consumption.
Protection against oxidative stress

High antioxidant capacity
The OPC capsules or the used grape seed extract from Italy, which is used for Vino Vida, has an excellent ORAC value of over 1’660’000 µmol TE/100g. The high antioxidant capacity comes from the intensive extraction and the very high polyphenol content.
OPC ingredients in grape seeds
There are different measuring methods to determine the true OPC content. The analysis method Vanillin-HCI is often used. This method has the property that the result of the OPC content is much higher, because additional catechins are added. For our OPC measurement we use the NP-HPLC method. This method shows a more accurate result. However, this is massively lower. To show the comparison of both measuring methods, we have tested Vino Vida with both measuring methods.
The virtues of OPC without the disadvantages of alcohol
OPCs are among the best-researched phytochemicals (see studies on PubMed). One capsule Vino Vida contains as much OPC as a liter of red wine, but no alcohol.

Vino Vida contains 90 capsules each with 305 mg grape seed extract and 35 mg vitamin C from acerola fruits. Net content: 49 g.
In the 305 mg of grape seed extract is contained:
290 mg polyphenols from grape seeds,
of which 150 mg OPC (oligomeric proanthocyanidins),
of which 60 mg flavonoids,
of which 20 mg resveratrol.
